Iris Shrug/Bolero

This bolero is simple piece that creates a big statement and at the same time provides warmth, style, comfort, and versatility. Make it in you girl’s favourite color and she will absolutely adore it. It is worked seamlessly in one piece, from top down.

Sizing:

Sizes: 2 (4, 6, 8, 10, 12)

Garment chest: 22.5” (25.5”, 26.5”, 29.5”, 30.5”, 32”)

To fit chest: 21” (23”, 25”, 26.5”, 28”, 30”)

Materials:

·       Worsted weight (11-10 WPI) yarn:

192 (201, 214, 233, 248, 274) yards approx.

·       5.5 mm and 4 mm crochet hooks (or size needed to obtain the gauge and two size smaller hook)

·       Stitch markers

·       Yarn needle

·       3 buttons (size ¾”)

Abbreviations (American terminology):

·       Ch = chain

·       St/s = stitch/es

·       Dc = double crochet

·       Inc = increase

·       Sc = single crochet

·       rem = remain/ing

·       WS = wrong side

·       RS= right side

Gauge:

·       12 dc by 6.5 rows = 4” by 4”

Special stitches:

·       V stitch: (Dc-ch3-dc) all in same st.

·       Iris stitch: (2dc-ch1-2dc) all in same st.

Notes:

·      Beg ch 1 does NOT count as a st. Pull the ch 1 up to the height of dc at the start of each row and then work the row.

·       Where increase is mentioned, add 2 dc in same stitch.

·       Bolero has very little positive ease. If you prefer loose shrug, so that child can grow into it, make one size larger or use a larger hook than required to obtain gauge.

Only sizes 2 and are available for free here on blog. You can buy pdf on Ravelry which includes all the sizes plus stitch diagrams for the body.

Edging & Finishing:

Place 3 st markers along (wearer’s) right side of yoke, spacing equally.

With smaller hook,

Ch 1 and add sc evenly across the rows, at the same time, ch 5 where you have attached the st markers to create a loop (these loops will serve as buttonholes), sl st along the neck opening, add 3 sc for turning, add sc evenly across the left front. Fasten off.

Weave in the ends and sew on buttons to correspond to the buttonholes.

Wanderlust ribbed beanie

It's a beginner friendly pattern that involves no increases or decreases. Beanie is worked flat in a rectangle, the the sides are sewn together and the top is closed. I have used Nako sports wool bulky yarn which is perfect for winter. It is 25% wool and 75% acrylic yarn, which provides sufficient warmth. In addition to that, wool provides strech and elasticity to the beanie. I would totally recommend wool-acrylic blend or 100% wool yarn for this project, but you can also use acrylic yarn. (Only adult sizes are available for free here on my blog. Paid pdf is available on Ravelry which includes all the sizes from preemie to adult large.) Check out the beanies made by my amazing testers. This cute little boy is a perfect model for this beanie.
