How to select yarn and hook for crochet wearables

Are there any parameters that should be considered when selecting the yarn for crochet wearables? Yes definitely there are. If you are following any pattern, then it gives details about the yarn to be used. It is not possible to use the exact yarn. But go for an alternative that is similar to the recommended yarn as much as possible. Check for the weight (thickness) and composition. Yarn thickness: If you're following a particular pattern, then this is the first thing to look for. Yarn is available in many thicknesses ranging from thread to super bulky. So if pattern calls for worsted weight yarn, you should always use worsted weight yarn. If you use thinner or thicker yarn, it will change the size and the fabric texture or drape of the finished garment.  In general, worsted and bulky yarns are used for warm and cozy winter garments and lightweight yarns are used for summers. If you want to use worsted weight yarn for summers, you can use a larger hook to create airy fabric o...

Crochet a perfectly fitting beanie (of any size, with any yarn and any hook)

Many times it is difficult to crochet a hat that fits perfectly. Right? That happened with me too many times. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I made her a beanie in newborn size. But it was so large that she wore it when she was 7-8 months old. 😂 I also made a beanie for my 8 year old cousin, but it came out adult size. It's really frustrating to make a beanie which doesn't fit properly. Over time, I crocheted some beanies and learned few techniques, which I would love to share with you. The most common method is to crochet a flat circle of specific size (depends on the size of beanie you are making), then stop increasing the stitches and continue in rounds till you reach the desired height. This is the most widely used method to get the correct size. But sometimes even this method didn't work for me (It was totally my mistake, I admit). So I follow another method that resulted in perfect size beanie. For this method, no need to measure flat circle d...

Alternate method for magic circle

I was making some solid granny squares. And then I realised that the last chain from the hook can be used as 'a magic circle'. I made few more squares and this method really worked. 😁🤗 I used it in my  granny square table runner . I shared it on a facebook crochet community. Most of the crocheters were unaware of this method. And they thought this is a cool idea. So today I am sharing it with you. 😊 I will explain 1st round of dc flat circle, but you can use this method anywhere when working in rounds. Round 1: ch 3, make 12 dc in the 3rd (i.e. last) ch from the hook. Join to the 1st actual dc with sl st. Pull the yarn end tightly, so that the ch will close completely without any hole. (Same as you do with magic circle).  (12 dc) Close up: ch 3, 12 dc in 3rd ch from the hook, sl st. Pull the yarn end tighthy to close the ch. Notes: 1. Crochet the ch little loosely, so you can make 12 stitches easily in it. 2. In the above pattern, ch 3 does NOT count a...
