Gauge:

13 sc-blo and 14 rows = 4" × 4"

Note: The gauge swatch should be little stiff when you obtain the gauge. If it is not, try again with slightly thicker yarn.

Notes:

1.      Ch 1, does not count as a stitch.

2.      Crochet sl st-blo loosely.

3. For this pattern, preferably use acrylic-wool blend or 100% wool yarn.

Only baby sizes are available for free on blog. You can buy a color coded pdf on Ravelry, sizes preemie to adult large.

Pattern:

Row 1 (WS): Ch 19 (21, 25, 27, 28). Sc in 15 (17, 20, 22, 23) ch starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, sl st in rem 3 (3, 4, 4, 4) ch (18, 20, 24, 26, 27 sts)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sl st-blo in 3 (3, 4, 4, 4) sts, sc-blo in rem 14 (16, 20, 22, 23) sts.

Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc-blo to last 3 (3, 4, 4, 4) sts, sl st-blo in remaining sts.

Repeat row 2 & 3 to row 34 (42, 48, 52, 56).

Or repeat rows 2 & 3, ending on even number row until the piece measures approx 10” (12”, 14”, 15”, 16”) along the long edge.

Fold the fabric right sides together and join both the sides with sl sts. Fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail to sew the top of the beanie.

Closing the top of the beanie:

Thread the tail onto yarn needle and sew long (approx 1") running stitches along the top (short) edge of the hat. Pull yarn to gather and close the top edge. Make sure you pull tight to avoid any gaps. Make a knot to secure. Weave in the ends. Turn right side out. Attach a pom pom at the top (optional).

Wanderlust ribbed beanie

It's a beginner friendly pattern that involves no increases or decreases. Beanie is worked flat in a rectangle, the the sides are sewn together and the top is closed. I have used Nako sports wool bulky yarn which is perfect for winter. It is 25% wool and 75% acrylic yarn, which provides sufficient warmth. In addition to that, wool provides strech and elasticity to the beanie. I would totally recommend wool-acrylic blend or 100% wool yarn for this project, but you can also use acrylic yarn. (Only adult sizes are available for free here on my blog. Paid pdf is available on Ravelry which includes all the sizes from preemie to adult large.) Check out the beanies made by my amazing testers.
