Materials

  • Sport weight yarn
  • 3.5 mm and 3 mm crochet hooks (or size needed to obtain gauge and one size smaller hook)
  • 1 stitch marker
  • Pair of scissors
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

18 sc by 22 rows = 4” by 4”

Abbreviations

US terminology
ch = chain
sc-blo = single crochet in back loop only
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
inc = increase

Notes:

  1. Ch 1 does not count as a stitch
  2. When working in rounds, do NOT join after rounds, continue working in spirals. Place a st marker in 1st st to keep the track of number of rounds.
  3. Where inc is mentioned, add 2 sc in same st.

Pattern:

Make 2

Ribbing:
With smaller hook,

Row 1: Ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch. (8 sts)

Row 2-26: ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, sc-blo in next 6 sts, sc in last st. (8 sts)

Join last ribbing row with the 1st row, using sl sts.

Now switch to larger hook and work across the ribbing. From here onward, work in rounds, without joining (work in spiral) and without turning.

Round 1: ch 1, add 1 sc across each ribbing row. (26 sts)

Round 2: sc in each st. (26 sts)

Round 3: sc in 11 sts, inc in next st, sc in 2 sts, inc in next st, sc in 11 sts. (28 sts)

Round 5: sc in 11 sts, inc in next st, sc in 6 sts, inc in next st, sc in 11 sts. (32 sts)

Round 6-7: sc in each st. (32 sts)

Round 8: sc in next 11 sts, ch 3, skip 10 sts, sc in remaining 11 sts. (25 sts including 3 ch)

Round 9-12: sc in each st. (25 sts)

Round 13: sc-blo in each st. Join with sl st, fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Wanderlust ribbed beanie

It's a beginner friendly pattern that involves no increases or decreases. Beanie is worked flat in a rectangle, the the sides are sewn together and the top is closed. I have used Nako sports wool bulky yarn which is perfect for winter. It is 25% wool and 75% acrylic yarn, which provides sufficient warmth. In addition to that, wool provides strech and elasticity to the beanie. I would totally recommend wool-acrylic blend or 100% wool yarn for this project, but you can also use acrylic yarn. (Only adult sizes are available for free here on my blog. Paid pdf is available on Ravelry which includes all the sizes from preemie to adult large.) Check out the beanies made by my amazing testers. This cute little boy is a perfect model for this beanie.
