Purple prints hooded vest for toddler

Easy free crochet pattern


I made this vest for a 1 year old cute, chubby boy.   ðŸ˜˜❤




You will need:

  • Red heart comfort yarn (purple prints): 1 skein (colour A)
  • Small amount of white worsted weight yarn (colour B). 
  • I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook or size to obtain guage
  • Darning needle
  • Pair of scissors
  • 5 buttons (20 mm diameter)
  • Stitch markers

Guage:

12 hdc and 10 rows measures 10 × 10 cm


Size:

Finished chest - 60 cm ( to fit chest measuring 50 cm)

Notes:

  1. Turning chain counts as first stitch, except for hdc2tog and sc.
  2.  Always join yarn with sl st  (and right side of the vest facing you.)

Outline:


First crochet rectangle A (70 hdc × 22 rows), without fastening off the yarn, crochet part B. Fasten off.

Join yarn and crochet part C. Fasten off.

Join yarn and crochet part D.

Fold the left and right part and sew the shoulders (orange lines).

Attach yarn at the neck corner and crochet hood as rows of hdcs.

Pattern:

Bottom rectangle (part A)

Row 1: (right side)
With A, ch 71. Hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook and each of next 68 ch. (70 sts)

Row 2 - 22: ch 2, turn. Skip the 1st st, hdc in each of next 69 sts. (70 sts) 
Do not fasten off.


Left front top (part B):

Row 1: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 14 sts, hdc2tog in next 2 sts. Put a stitch marker in the next stitch (16 sts)


Row 2: Ch 2, turn. Hdc2tog in the very 1st st and the next st. Hdc in next 14 sts. (15 sts).

Row 3 - 10: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 14 sts. ( 15 sts)

Row 11: Ch 2, sl st into next 7 sts, ch 2 (counts as hdc), skip the st at the base of ch 2, hdc in next 7 sts. (8 sts)

Row 12: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 7 sts. (8 sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing shoulder.



Back top (part C):

Remove the stitch marker and join yarn in the same st with sl st.

Row 1: Ch 2. Hdc2tog in the same st and next st. Hdc in next 32 st, hdc2tog in next 2 st. Put a stitch marker in the next st. (32 sts)

Row 2: Ch 2. Hdc2tog in the same st and next st. Hdc in next 28 st, hdc2tog in next 2 st. (30 sts)

Row 3 - 12: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 14 sts. (15 sts)

Fasten off.


Right front top (part D):

Remove the stitch marker and join yarn in the same st with sl st.

Row 1: Ch 2. Hdc2tog in the same st and next st. Hdc in next 15 st. (16 sts)

Row 2: Ch 2. Turn. Hdc in next 13 sts, hdc2tog in next 2 sts. (15 sts)

Row 3 - 10: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 14 sts. (15 sts)

Row 11- 12: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 7 sts. (8 sts).

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing shoulder.

Fold the left and right front over the back and sew the shoulders.

Hood:

Join the yarn at the top left corner of neck with sl st.

Row 1: Ch 2. Add 41 sts evenly across the neck. (42 sts).

Row 2 - 20: ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 41 sts. (42 sts).

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold the hood and sew at top. You can also use sc sts.


Finishing:

Join A yarn at the left front bottom corner. Ch 1, sc in the same st. 2 more sc in the same corner. Add 42 sc evenly across for button band, (put a stitch marker in the last st made), 46 sc evenly across hood and 42 sc across the right side for buttonhole band, 3 sc in the corner, 70 sc in each st of the bottom.

Row 2: join yarn B, Ch 1. Sc in each of previous row sc.
Fasten off.


Button band:

Remove the stitch marker and join the yarn in the same st. 

Row 1: Sc in the same st. Sc in next 41 sts. (42 st)

Row 2 - 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in the same st and in next 41 sts. (42 sts).
Fasten off.


Buttonhole band:

Join yarn at the left bottom corner. 

Row 1: ch 1, sc in the same st and in next 41 sts. (42 sts)

Row 2: ch 1, turn. Sc in the same st and next st, *[ch 2, skip next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts]*, repeat 4 more times, sc in last 2 st. (42 sts, including chs)

Row 3 - 4: Ch 1. Turn. Sc in the same st and next 41 st. (42 sts). 
Fasten off.

Armhole border:

With A yarn, make 28 sc evenly across armhole. Fasten off. Join colour B, sc in each previous row sc.


Sew the buttons on button band. Weave in ends.

Make this bottle sling carrier with any thickness yarn available with you and for any size bottle. I made this one for my daughter. Materials Cotton yarn (any thickness) Crochet hook suitable for your yarn weight (use smaller hook than recommended on the yarn label.)
